“If you want to achieve what you’ve never achieved before you have to become who you’ve never become before” – Brian Tracy, Maximum Achievement

New year signals
New beginnings
New opportunities
And new challenges

So, one often wonder
Will this year be kinder?
Will there be better opportunities?
Will there be lesser challenges?

So, one often promise
To move forward
Leave the past behind
And work on for a better future.

But moving forward
And leaving the past behind
Don’t always guarantee
a better or kinder new year

Sadly because
One only moves forward
One only leaves the past behind
But never change

Changing the way we think
And the way we act
Is the best way to expect
A better, kinder, new year

So cheers to a new year, a new life, and a new beginning.

Photos are of Luwak coffee farm, in Abian Subak Agrotourism Bali. If you’re a coffee enthusiast and want to experience the making of the most expensive coffee in the world, Luwak coffee while visiting Bali, include it in your tour.

We went to Abian Subak Agrotourism where we had Luwak coffee tasting and witnessed their traditional way of hand pounding the coffee beans. It was the best way to experience Luwak coffee for the first time.

  1. happy new year my dear friend, blessings to kids and hubby (pass you the badge for P when we meet next, tell her I still remember!). An interesting coffee making techniques= for sure, like the civet cat coffee in Vietnam, strong flavour, did you like it? Was too acidic for me. I so love this poem from you, moving forward but not changing is quite useless, gives me a lot of inspiration to make the changes I need. Did you pick a word for 2020? I picked mine and it is concurrent with your poem here. Your poem speaks clear and plain and touches the heart of the matter.

    1. Thank you Gina dear..i am kinda passionate about people and the things around us lately and that brings me to my “serious” poems/reflections (i am sure you noticed) lately.
I am also happy and delighted to know that we share the same thoughts lately. It makes me believe that with everything going on around the world today, ” we still have hope”…
The civet coffee i believe is the same with the research tells me (lol) that Luwak is the local name for Civet…i hope i am right (lol)

Thanks for remembering everyone and send my love and greetings to your lovely trio as well..

      1. yes and you translate that passion into action, so commendable and you are my sweet idol, told my kids about all your good works and they like WOW!

Yes the Luwak is the civet cat.

And I love all your poems, the serious, the sweet and the romantic, your are a versatile and gifted poet!

  2. I love the sentiment of the poem. We do need the catalyst of change to make the future different from the past… As for coffee – it isn’t my beverage of choice, even if it is rare and exotic and made with special processes. I prefer water or flavored water but I know I’m in the minority. I’m sure my husband would be enthusiastic about this coffee!

    1. Thank you dear…yes we need to change to make sure that we dont repeat the mistakes of the past if we are looking forward for a better future.
Coffee is something that is a part of me growing up. I witnessed my father sipping a cup of coffee every morning with a smile in every sip..and when i was old enough to have my cup of coffee too i cant i understand where that “smile” was coming from..

  3. We must analyse our life and see what is still out-moded to make way for a newer beginning. Coffee is the best and good to know where to find the best. I must look out for it. I hope your book continues to sell. Blessings Nanette

  4. Happy NY Mich …Your poem resonates deeply … we have to know and accept our past in order to move forward. For when we deny or hide it we only damage ourselves.

Good luck with your book πŸ™‚

  5. Happy New Year, Mich…to you and your precious family! πŸ™‚

Your poem is powerful timely truth! We must make positive changes in order to conquer this new year! πŸ™‚

I bet that coffee smells great! πŸ™‚

Hope your book is coming along well! Enjoy your writing time! πŸ™‚
HUGS to you and your precious family! πŸ™‚

      1. Oh, such a beautiful and inspiring story Irma thank you for sharing…now, i am sitting contemplating: when faced with adversity what am i a carrot, an egg or a coffee bean…or better yet how will i face adversities?.like a carrot? An egg? Or a coffee bean?
