Oh, Dear Del Hall

Oh, dear Del Hall  you made history
on a season of reflection and preparation
among Christians for Easter celebration
for fourty days you replicate, Christ’s
sacrifice and withdrawal into the desert
Oh, dear Del Hall  you made history
by having nothing but beer, 44 pounds
you lost in 46 days back in 2019
on a season of reflection and preparation
are you a fool, or simply being cool
to replicate Christ’s deeds and be one
among  Christians for Easter celebration

Day 7 NaPoWriMo

Today our prompt is another oldie-but-
goodie: a poem based on a news article.

I chose this particular news article about Del Hall who had a “beer only lent diet” in 2019

NPM super poetry challenge no. 4 write a cascade poem.

For the cascade poem, a poet takes each line from the first stanza of a poem and makes those the final lines of each stanza afterward. Beyond that, there are no additional rules for rhyming, meter, etc.

You really did a great job! I’m surprised that Del Hall undertook such a foolish way to gain fame. But glad he was an inspiration for your poem!!
