Petals

you dropped the news

like free-flowing petals

slowly, gently, piece by piece

until they all went down

crushing me,

drowning me,

soaking me

i can hardly breathe,

it suffocated me

i try to find you in each of those petals

hoping you would be there,

wishing a part of you is still there

but all i can see is scattered pieces

of the remnants of your memory

the wind gently whispers your name

pricking my heart, tearing me apart

gannoon ba ako kadaling kalimutan?

(am i that easy to forget?)

  1. This is so very soul crushing – in a soft and quiet way as if the air is slowly compressed from the lungs and no room for another breath – an love is extinguished… Reminds me of a song Roberta Flack recorded in the early 1970s…
Strumming my pain with his fingers
Singing my life with his words
Killing me softly with his song
Killing me softly with his song
Telling my whole life with his words
Killing me softly with his song….

PS…your poem gets me to thinking about when beautiful flower petals fall…it's sad…but it's a part of their journey and they return to the earth becoming nutrients for the soil helping future plants to grow and thrive. Even when humans are hurt they can learn, grow, get strong and continue on their journey. ๐Ÿ™‚
