Reality Bites

in a gathering of friends and more
we hear them talk, of their promotions of sort
a new car on the way, a new house to stay
a planned holiday, a great time off

in a gathering of friends and more
no one will talk of an annoying neighbor
or a nosy mother in law, just no one
or an abusive partner, just no one

in a gathering of friends and more
we saw them give their best smiles
parade their most expensive clothes
show off a new designer bag
or a sparkling diamond ring

in a gathering of friends and more
we hear the best, we see the good
until it’s over, the gathering
of friends and more

then reality bites,
they took off their masks
faces the mirror, they see a reflection
a reflection of what’s not to be

  2. This piece reminds me of an Advice Column I read this week, where one person in the group of neighbors got a bit too close for comfort – so the one couple doesn’t want to go to gatherings with that couple being included anymore. Some of that ‘circle’ said ignore it, but the Columnist said you should never have to put up with ‘bad behavior’ or having someone invade your personal space.

It also reminds me of a group I once belonged too – I never wore a mask, but I didn’t fit in because I could not compete with their boasting. Reality or not – it wasn’t and isn’t my cup of tea. When I look in the mirror I don’t want to see the rear end of a donkey. πŸ˜€

    1. Ahhh thank you so much Jules for sharing that. It true, we shoule never allow anyone invade our privacy especially if we don’t directly offer information. Some people can’t or maybe too naive to understand it..
And like you, i can’t tolerate people boasting around (whether true or not) its not also my cup of tea. Its just like some people tend to flaunt all everything in social media, even their own personal relationships, but in reality its different.😊

      1. ….which is why the only ‘social media’ I have is my blog… While I do respect Facebook and others – they have their place, but I really don’t need to see an image of every meal a friend eats before consuming it.

Boasting is almost a combination of bragging and gossip… I do not play the game of one-upmanship. I’d rather do anonymous acts of kindness. πŸ™‚
