The Break Up Poem

Good evening (or morning, or afternoon) dear friends and poets.
.
I am venturing out on a bit darker side of love poetry.
How would you like my next poetry book to be? Share your thoughts with me, i’d love to hear them
.
.
The Break Up Poem

i could write the most heartbreaking breakup poem
the one that would make you curse love and its complexities
the kind that would make you run away from love the moment it knocks on your door
the one that would make you sigh in disbelief and cry in agony
the kind that would make you hate cupid for even inventing it

but baby i won’t, truth is complications is what made love worth trying
truth is you made me embrace love joyfully back into my life
truth is i sighed with joy and cried in gratitude
truth is i believed cupid is the cutest creature ever existed

but why my love, whatever happens to us?
whatever happens to the promises we made?
whatever happens to the memories we shared?
whatever happens to the future we dreamt?
whatever happens to our forever?

you said i didn’t love you
how is giving up a part of myself not loving?
how is wanting the best for you not loving?
how is actively listening to you not loving?
how is checking on you not loving?
how is making time for you not loving?
how is showing appreciation to all that you do not loving?
how is not sweating on the small stuff not loving?
how is making time for your loved ones not loving?
if this ain’t love then tell me what it is

i could write the most heartbreaking breakup poem
and curse you to death for giving up on me
just as when i thought you wouldn’t
the one the would tear you apart, break your heart and soul
the kind that would make you regret leaving me
the kind that would make you cry out for salvation

but baby i won’t, truth is i love you with all my heart
even if you believe i don’t,
even if you think maybe it wasn’t enough
or maybe, just maybe i am not the one you needed
for whatever it takes, i love you nevertheless
and if i may say, i love you to the moon and back

It is more than a break-up poem. It is an unrequited love poem… You do love so well. Perhaps a book of poems that is the evolution of love – from childhood to young love to mature love to broken hearted love to loss and finally to that love that transcends death….. Just an idea. I’d do it myself but I never really mastered love poems.

You do love so well in poetry! πŸ™‚ Have you published a book yet of all love poetry? So many aspects of love…commitment, intimacy, , passion, etc…and so many types/kinds of love…Eros, Philia, Agape, Pragma, Storge, etc. So much we learn about love as we grow up, Etc.
YOU could do an amazing book of your poems about love!!! ❀
