i can’t breath, i can’t cry, i can’t even sigh when you pushed me hard, down the ground and why? just why? because i am different? my color is different from yours? since when did colors matter? since when did you have the right to treat me like i’m not even half a human?
i can’t breath, i can’t cry, i can’t even sigh when you humiliated me in public and why? just why? because i am not like you? my beliefs are different from yours? since when did differences in beliefs matter? since when did you have the right to ridicule me?
why the need to segregate why the need to separate
different colors? different races? different beliefs? different status?
it’s choking me. i can’t breath. i can’t cry. i can’t even sigh.
i need to breath. survive. live

I’m winking back the tears, living in a country where racism and structural inequality is endemic and ingrained. There is such a huge mountain to climb to make things better.
I read this and felt my throat tighten… Was this misogyny of domestic violence? Was this police brutality? Was this racism rearing its ugly head? And of course the answer is – yes. A very powerful poem of pure emotion!
Such a heart-written heart-read poem, SweetMich. This brings the tears flowing. So sad. Everyone is the same inside… we want the same things inside…so why can’t we be united over our insides? Things like, wanting love, respect, a good world for our children and grandchildren, peace, joy, kindness, compassion, acceptance, affirmation, to be heard, etc. Oh, I wish the peoples of the world could unite over these!
