Beaten, Taunted
i don’t know what hurt the most being beaten up or being taunted?
the beating produces bruises and wounds but eventually
it will heal, it will become a scar, a scar that will remind you
of the wars you’ve won, of the battles you’ve overcome
the scars, in effect, will make you a better, stronger, triumphant person
then you are healed of the traumas of the past
healed of your brokenness
but the humiliation and insults, do they even heal?
the damaging words uttered do they even fade away?
how do you mend a heart battered by indiscretion?
how do you cure a mind tortured by insults?
how do you rescue a soul drowning with indignity?
will there even be scars after each prejudicial word is said?
how do you cure ruined self-worth because of mortification?
i don’t know what hurt the most being beaten up or being taunted?
will someone tell me please, because i don’t really know anymore
which pain is worst, being beaten up or being taunted?
i can’t tell ‘though i had them both.
Oh, hon, this is heartbreaking and unfortunately true. Sending love.

My father was quite abusive – verbally and psychologically – and I remember my daughter, when she was just small, commenting on how Grandma was bruised on the inside. Says it all, doesn’t it.

Ahh thank you VJ for sharing your story…it does says it all…the bruises inside, the wounds that actually do not heal – they are the ones that make us remember all that we went through..

The pain of mental abuse is way worse because itβs invisible. People donβt see it and only the abused person can see the deep gashes it produces in the soul. These wounds never heal completely. Always reminding of those hateful words.

Heartbreaking. The truth is different for everyone. For me both leave scars – but one is invisible. The hidden hurts garner no sympathy – only those that are seen and can be bandaged…

This is heartbreaking, Mich! Too often mental abuse is not recognized since it is invisible. Yet the hurt thrives.

In both cases the bruises and wounds on the inner being are most painful to heal. Your poem makes for a deeply thoughtful feeling.

Most of the time the hurt is invisible. There are many out there whom nobody realises are carrying these scars. Some speak of them and some choose not to. Each has their reasons, but the suffering is enormous.

The words. bruises inside, are haunting…I have experienced the sting of words hurled to hurt and remember being chased home from school by ones wanting to beat me, it’s funny, those hurled words are remembered easily whereas I have to stop and think about those boys who chased me all those years ago.
A beautiful and heartbreaking post, Mich…
