Your Hello

what is with your “hello,” dear?
that I so long desired to hear

a kind of hello, i used to adore
whenever you’re up and close by the door

the hello that awakened my soul
fulfilled my true heart’s impulse

a kind of hello, i missed and longed for
regardless of the millions i heard over

the hello that soothed my heart
numbed my thoughts, made me forget

a kind of hello, i used to admire and desire
for it echoed your love and passion, I swear

what is with your “hello,” dear?
’twas you saying, I love you, I’m sure

Happy World Poetry Day

I Bet You Were Right

remember how we used
to talk ’bout movies and love songs
and happily -ever- after?
you said romance is for the hopeless romantic, for the young,
the careless and the carefeee
I bet you were right,
you were right
‘cos at forty -five,
I’m the same; young,
careless, carefree,
hopeless romantic
still crazy in love with you

remember how we used
to talk ’bout our story
our love story,
you said it could be a beautiful plot
for an original movie storyline pitch
I bet you were right,
your were right
‘cos at forty – five
I still believe, ours is the best
love story ever

Through All The Times

through all the things i’ve done
and in all the many places i’ve gone
for the many times i’ve changed my ways
and for the countless moments and days
you’ve been in my heart, in my thoughts I swear

through the many faces and friends i’ve met
and the enormous challenges i’ve bet
for the hours i’ve consumed, i’ve depleted
and for the battles I tried winning but lost
you’ve been in my heart, in my thoughts I swear

throughall the memories i’ve kept, some lost, some forgotten
and the many times i tried to recreate
them
and the magnitude of experiences i’ve written
you’ve been in my heart, in my thoughts I swear

through all the times i was grateful, i was thankful
’twas because our paths have crossed
forever you will be in my heart, in my thoughts
grateful, thankful, blessed always and forever

I’m Not Skinny

I’m not skinny, I’m not thin
I’m just fit and lean
I can do rounds of planks and squats
as you watch and admire with loving thoughts
I can have a fully loaded vegetable salad meal
as you enjoy steaks and your cheeseburger meal

I’m not skinny, I’m not thin
I’m just fit and lean
I can fit into anything, skinny jeans and fitted tops
while you struggle to keep track of your blue faded jeans
I can live without carbs, and I don’t even miss it a bit
as you feast over a fries, a pasta and a big chunk of meat

I’m not skinny, I’m not thin
I’m just fit and lean
and the best part of it, is I can wear your oversized shirt
as you tuck me into bed, my face burrowed feeling your heartbeat
that’s not even yet, ‘cos I’d wake up in the middle of my sleep
with you tracing every bit of my curve and shape

I’m not skinny, I’m not thin
I’m just fit and lean

Oh, Dear Mr. Sun

oh, dear Mr. Sun, Mr. Sun
what power you hold
that when we look at you,
you shine brightly as you ever do
your arrogance is felt every step of my way
the arrogance that is truly undeniably charming
for one can never dismiss your beauty in all its gracefulness

oh, dear Mr. Sun, Mr. Sun
how lovely you look today
as if you are God’s morning star
glowing, blazing, shining, flaming
you are by far the most beautiful thing God has ever created
for no one can dismiss the fact that you do wonders all the time

oh, dear Mr. Sun, Mr. Sun
are you a star or just a fiery ball in the sky?
or could you be a glowing medallion hanging
from somewhere we will never know?
one thing’s for sure though, I will never forget you
and that fateful afternoon
where you blazed like a Titan’s fiery wheel in the sky
it was a dazzling with splendor, a heart- swelling moment
for in between the gaps of the window
you shone more brightly than you used to
you were the silent witness of a love
a love that was born, born to last forever

My Flowers Came Too Late

My Flowers Came Too Late

I was sixteen when
you first gave me flowers
’twas beautiful, to say the least
they were white roses,
so innocent, so pure,
I danced and swayed my way
as I paraded them over for all to see
their heavenly fragrance
invited everyone
to smell,
their long green stems
were as fragile as glass,
or so I thought
I was on cloud nine,
I was flying high
there were many more roses
and many more flowers
until there were none
so
I bought you flowers
white roses
they were beautiful too
with a heavenly scent as well
but
was it too late, or too soon
to give you flowers?
I don’t remember
as I remember
looking at you
gorgeous as always
in your perfect white
barong tagalog*
my tears
kept falling
as I dropped my last
white rose,
and said my last goodbye
where you would be laid
to eternal rest
goodbye was all that I could say

“I’m sorry, my flowers came too late, dad”

P.S

*Barong Tagalog -It is a common formal or semi-formal attire in Filipino culture, and is worn untucked over an undershirt with belted trousers and dress shoes

Rock ‘N Roll Star

Rock ‘N Roll Star

I’m sipping my cappucino,
quietly enjoying the bitter after taste,
with our favorite song
playing on the radio
when I remember how I first met you
you were smiling, probably the sweetest smile I had ever seen, and I was terrified
for a minute or so

hey man, there was something about you
in your faded jeans and awkward white fitted shirt, you were a rock n roll star
coming out from a backstage party
after a concert, only that you were not,
but something ’bout you
’bout you looking like a rock n roll star

there was something ’bout you
the way you made me laugh
and the way you made me half crazy,
half crazy for always wanting to be near you
you spoke with confidence
you smiled with arrogance
you walked with swag
something ’bout you
’bout you looking like a rock n roll star

you were a star, just enough for me
to go mad like a crazy fan girl
your small space was your centerstage
your friends, your one time audience
you were just being you
and I was half crazy, half crazy
something ’bout you
’bout you looking like a rock n roll star

and as I finish my cappucino, I can’t help
but smile, ‘cos there’s really something
’bout you, after all, you still
gorgeously look like a rock n roll star
in your faded jeans and awkward
fitted white shirt, and I am still terrified
hey, baby your my kind of rock n roll star
and I am your mad half crazy fan girl
