I Pray

I Pray

Ukraine and Russia are still at war
for months and maybe years more
children are no longer out to play
i bow down and pray it won’t stay.

war ruined communities and families
disrupts economic fabric of nations
creates long term harm to people
reduction in human and material capital.

war is never the answer to a dispute
it’s never the solution nor absolute
i hope one day we’d be happy and gay
i bow down in supplication and pray.

Iran sentenced 15k protesters to death
of “enmity against God” and “spreading
corruption on earth”
a punishment for not being obedient
or simply being an oppressive tyrant?

tyranny is at most harsh and  cruel
prevents people from reaching full potential
i hope one day we’d live freely
i bow down in plea and pray.

more than the war in Ukraine
and the tyranny in Iran
we all rage our own wars
we all are silent tyrants.

these kind of wars are even more dangerous
it destroy self worth, dreams and ambitions
the tyrants among us are more oppressive
it put a death sentence to all that we hope and
we believe.

i bow down in supplication and pray
we find inner peace one day.

Little Prince

Little Prince

i’ve always wanted a little prince who’d run around the house in glee
i’ve always wanted a boyish laugh that’d remind me how it is to have someone tough and strong defend you, willing to break their bone.

but i wonder what about the boys in a war-torn country
where they were forced to take arms and fight for freedom and equality
where they were forced to learn to pull the trigger instead of holding on to their mother’s loving arms?

then i wonder, how about the boys in the slums and streets
these boys lost in the loneliness and sadness of life’s harshest challenges
these boys lost in the shadows of what could have been’s and what if’s?

how about these boys with raw emotions and feelings and thoughts
how about these boys with dreams of becoming fine gentlemen someday
these boys with hopes of a better life, what about them?

then i pray for the little prince i could have had but went on to be somewhere else
lost in the battered pinnacle of their horrific dreams
endangered, nothing to hope for, nothing to dream.

i pray there won’t be any boys left in great danger.

Pain in Many Colors

Pain in Many Colors

i’ve seen pain in many different colors
for most yellow,
after the outbreak of pandemic Asians
in the West silently suffered agonizing, terrifying hate crimes,
brutally blamed for kicking off covid -19
elderly people and women alike
were not spared
really, what have they got to do with it?
why so much hate?

i’ve seen pain in many different colors
for most black,
years, even decades have passed yet Negroes
are still considered lowest members of the society
America had their first Black President, along with black men and women
making names in the world, but there is no denying for most they are still nobody
really, what have they got to do with it?
why so much hate?

i’ve seen pain in many different colors
for most white,
when Russia waged a war against Ukraine, Russians all over were regarded criminals
just as how Germans were blamed for the persecution of the Jews,
even decades after, or Japanese were blamed for Pearl Harbor bombing
really, what have they got to do with it?
why so much hate?

truth is pandemic is out there killing innocent people, dreams shattered
truth is war is war, destroying cities after cities, waisted lives
no particular color will spare you the pain
the pain of agonizingly losing,
the pain of silently weeping
the pain of feeling hopeless
and the pain of experiencing fear

Fear

Fear

it’s the darkest of all the nights
the wind is howling, it frights
my inner soul and my heart
call for survival in plain sight.

it’s the darkest of all the nights
the gusty wind has a chilling effect
it numbs my body, freezes my mind
call for survival, anyone be kind?

i guess its just me alone
with the night in its darkest
and the howling wind
i am petrified, frightened.

please hear my supplication.

P.S.

A poem inspired by the current war between Russia and Ukraine. And the fact that there are over a hundred displaced foriegn students in Ukraine right now. Most of them are in their 4rth year University. 😔 My heart is broken 💔

On The Ground

On The Ground

pandemic is still on the ground
it broke our hearts, toppled us down
dreams were stolen
hopes were broken

our educational system changed
it made us strangers, distant
as classes were all via the so called
online learning

as we are joyfully slowly adapting
to the new normal, reunited once more
another pandemic is on the ground again
we are raging a war, the barbaric kind of war

what has become of humanity?
have we forgotten who we truly are?
what has become of us?
aren’t we tired of brutally killing one another?

there’s something on the ground again
it will break our hearts, it will topple us down
dreams will be stolen
hopes will be broken

and the future will again be uncertain.
